8 Important Tips

1. Make an appointment for both of you to visit with your travel professional at least 9 months before your special day.  If each of you can provide a few “must have” features or experiences for the Honeymoon, your travel professional can keep those top of mind when helping you plan.
2. It is best to know your budget before planning your honeymoon.  Telling your travel professional right away what your budget ceiling is will allow them to guide you in selecting the right destination.
3. Determine if you will take your honeymoon directly after your ceremony or at a later date.  Budget- conscious honeymooners may choose to travel to Europe in the late fall or early spring when nearly every destination is “on Sale”. Tropical destinations go on sale in late spring and early fall.
4. Discuss how much time you are willing to invest in getting to your destination.  Your travel professional will alert you to non-stop or charter flights to a chosen destination.  Popular honeymoon destinations like Jamaica, Orlando, London, Cancun, San Francisco have non-stops from major gateways. The more connecting flights you have, the more likely travel delays could happen.
5. Checking out resorts on line is fine, but consult with your travel consultant when it comes time to book.  Agents are able to negotiate the “best rate” for clients by working with preferred suppliers or by adjusting a date ever so slightly. Agents also have contacts for problem resolution.  Travel professionals know the places to avoid and the places which are ranked best in their category.  You want to be matched with the best resort for your interests and budget.
6. If you are planning a destination wedding, allow your travel professional to set up a group rate for your wedding party and guests.  Group rates do require a certain number of people with a “guaranteed” room rate for the months preceding your marriage.  Also, on-site resort Wedding Planners   will work with you regarding all details regarding the property to insure a flawless wedding ceremony.
7. All-inclusive resorts are often a good value because you pay in advance for all amenities and meals. But know that every all-inclusive resort is not the same, especially when it comes to dining options. As a honeymooner, you will likely want to stay at a resort offering more intimate specialty restaurants.   Ask your agent to make advanced reservations when possible.
8. Trip protection insurance is an important topic to discuss with your agent.  While the two of you may feel that nothing will affect your honeymoon date, you may need to change your departure date or return home early if something unforeseen happens with your immediate family.
